Aspronisi-Island-Santorini

Aspronisi (Greek: Ασπρονήσι) is an uninhabited island lying within the Santorini caldera.[1] The island was originally formed by the massive Minoan eruption in the 2nd millennium BC, after which it was gradually built up by successive volcanic activity.[2] The name Aspronisi, which means ‘White Island’ in Greek, is derived from the island being partially composed of white pumice.[3][4]

Aspronisi Island

  • Aspronisi was formed through the gradual volcanic activity in Santorini caldera, which itself is composed of four distinct shield volcanoes.[5] The island was formed along with the current Santorini caldera during a massive eruption in the 2nd millennium BC that expelled 14 cubic miles (60 km3 ) of dense rock. Aspronisi was briefly a submarine volcano before the force of the eruption pushed the islet above the surface, after which dense layers of pumice and tephra ejected from the volcano covered the island.
  • These deposits eventually solidified into the pale white deposits that give Aspronisi its moniker of the "White Isle".[4] The base of the island is composed of black lava rock, and the island is connected to the larger islands of Therasia and Santorini by the submerged outer edge of Santorini caldera.

The island belongs to the same family and it’s heirs for the last seven generations.

when it got connected to electricity. It stopped operating during World War II, until 1945, when it was reconstructed by the Greek Navy.

The Lighthouse is built right above a small building with whitewashed walls, which used to be the house of the warden, who was taking care of it during the first years that it was operating and it reaches up to 10 meters in height. Today, it is still operational as it emits a bright white light over the sea every 10 seconds and still contributes to the protection of the traveling boats.

What People say about us

This cruise was the highlight of our 5 days trip. Maik and his father were incredibly welcoming and kind hosts/captains. The new catamaran is spacious with lots of seating inside and spotless . The food from breakfast to lunch to dessert was delicious , homemade and filling. Nikos ( the captain ) was very communicative and graciously surprised me with a mini birthday cake to celebrate my birthday the following day. It was such a sweet surprise and made the day that much more special. Kamila Kazmierska

THE BEST boating experience in Santorini, and my favorite part of our Greece vacation. Maik and Alex are very friendly & knowledgeable about the island, taking our group to the top spots for private beaches, swimming, snorkeling (they provide equipment), memorable photos and more. The food on board was delicious including some of their homemade family recipes. Very professional and so much fun! Alyzandria (Aly)

Sirigos Sailing Catamaran cruises has created the perfect boat trip experience around Santorini. They picked multiple beautiful locations and gave us enough time to swim at all of them. They were personable and made sure to take care of us in a way that felt like they cared about quality over quantity, for example, Go Pros (which they send you the pictures you take), snorkels, paddle board, a beautiful bbq with traditional Greek sides to their mothers Greek yogurt and so much more. We were left in such high spirits and will not forget this trip! Ashley Clark US

We spent a wonderful day cruising on the Catamaran yacht. We started early in the morning, enjoying the view of the calm sea. The words do not describe what we have brought with our friends, a total of 8 people ... Excellent experience for all of us with the boat, in the amazing landscapes. It is really the ideal way for someone to spend their day, with all the comforts and benefits, plus the amazing food with smells and tastes of Santorini. I hope to come back to Santorini and to relive this experience. Tue 07 July, 2024 Rhianna smith USA

Best Think to do in Santorini

This Catamaran cruise was the best think that we done in Santorini. We Loved the whole experience, from the boat, to the food, to the crew, and the destinations. It was such a chill fun vibe for a sunny beautiful afternoon. We did the day cruise and had perfect weather. Our crew were great and we had a fun bunch on board. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone that wants to explore and see the scenery while relaxing on a sailboat for the afternoon.

Summer wind catamaran

I couldn’t have been more surprised and impressed with the offerings on my private catamaran cruise. My husband has a gluten allergy, and I let the Sirigos Sailing folks know ahead of time to see if they could accommodate him or if we needed to pack our own food. I also asked if we could bring our own bottle of local wine, as we had bought a nice bottle of assyrtiko wine from our wine tasting and tour of Koutsougianopoulos winery. They happily adjusted the menu for my husband’s allergy, and welcomed whatever food and drinks we wanted to bring aboard.
